What to do at Japanese Cruise Ports-of-Call

Japan is an island nation, so a cruise around the island is an efficient way to travel the length of the country and experience the different local cultures. TokudAw often meets our customers at each port of call to help our guests take side-trips at each location. Especially for guests with mobility challenges, a driver at each location can help make navigation and sight seeing more efficient. Though the location changes, TokudAw supports guests with one consistent operations team throughout their journey.

Sample Cruise itinerary:

Arrival day: Yokohama exploration

  • 5:00 Pick up: from Haneda or Narita

  • 6:30-8:30 Breakfast

  • 8:30-9:00 Travel to Sankeien Garden: A tranquil traditional Japanese garden with a tea house, bridge, and small 2-story pagoda.

  • 9-11:30 Explore Sankeien Garden

  • 11:30-12 Travel to Yokohama Chinatown

  • 12:30-14:50: Explore Yokohama Chinatown and Red Brick Warehouse

  • 15:00: Travel to hotel

Tokyo day:

  • 9:00 Hotel pick up (in Yokohama)

  • 9:15-11 Travel to Tokyo

  • 11:00-12:30 Shibuya crossing area: Hachiko dog statue and shrine, Explore Mega Don Quijote (a multi-department souvenir store), Seibu Shibuya, Shibuya PARCO, and Shibuya MODI (multi-story malls with a variety of shop types)

  • 12:30-14:00 Lunch in Shibuya

  • 14:00-14:15 Travel to Meiji Jingu Shrine (one of Tokyo’s largest shrines)

  • 14:15-15:45 Meiji Jingu Shrine and Harajuku, Including Takeshita Street, home to many character cafes and iconic Japanese fashion

  • 15:45: Travel to hotel


Osaka / Kyoto day 1: Tempozan Terminal / Tempozan Harbour Village

  • 8:30 Tempozan Terminal pick up (in Osaka)

  • 8:45-11:15 Travel to Golden Pavilion (in Kyoto)

  • 11:15-13:15 Golden Pavilion exploration

  • 13:15-14:45 Lunch

  • 14:45-15:00 Travel to Ryoanji Temple (in Kyoto, famous for it’s rock garden)

    • Optional excursion to Ninnaji temple, 5 minutes by car

  • 15:00-16:00 Explore Ryoanji Temple

  • 16:00-18:30 Travel to Tempozan Terminal

Osaka / Kyoto day 2: Tempozan Terminal / Tempozan Harbour Village

  • 8:30 Tempozan Terminal pick up (in Osaka)

  • 8:45-9:15 Travel to Osaka Castle (in Osaka)

  • 9:15-10:40 Explore Osaka Castle (Inside the rennovated castle is a museum)

  • 10:40-11 Travel to Dotonbori

  • 11-13:00 Explore Dotonbori and Shinsaibashi

    • Many of our guests enjoy visiting the Don Quijote in Dontonbori or the Daimaru in Shinsaibashi for souvenirs

  • 13:00-14:30 Lunch

  • 14:30-16:00 Explore Dotonbori and Shinsaibashi

    • Other stores our guests enjoy in the area is Bic Camera (a sort of technology mega-store), Yodobashi Camera (also a technology mega store) grandBack (a clothing store), Takashimaya and Hankyu Department Stores (both Japanese department stores)

  • 16:00-16:30 Travel to Tempozan Terminal

Kochi Day: Kochi New Port

  • 8:30 Kochi New Port pick up (in Kochi)

  • 8:45-9:10 Travel to Kochi Prefectural Makino Botanical Garden

  • 9:10-12:00 Explore Kochi Prefectural Makino Botanical Garden

  • 12:00-12:30 Travel to Hirome Market

  • 12:30-14:00 Lunch at Hirome Market (an indoor food market where it is easy to try local specialties)

  • 14:00-15:30 Kochi Castle Museum of History

  • 15:30-16:00 Travel to Kochi New Port

Hiroshima Day: Hiroshima Itsukaichi Cruise Ship Port

  • 9:30 Hiroshima Itsukaichi Cruise Ship Port (in Hiroshima)

  • 9:45-11:15 Travel to Itsukushima a place also known as Miyajima and popular due to the red tori gate that appears to float on water made famous in many pictures related to Japan

  • 11:15-15:30 Explore Itsukushima and lunch, the shrine, shopping street and surrounding areas

  • 15:30-17:00 Trael back to Hiroshima Itsukaichi Cruise Ship Port

Nagasaki Day: Nagasaki Port Matsugae International Terminal (also known as Matsugae Wharf or Matsugae Pier)

  • 8:30 Nagasaki Port Matsugae International Terminal

  • 8:45-9:15 Travel to Nagasaki Peace Park

  • 9:15-12:00 Explore Nagasaki Peace Park, including the Ngasaki Peace Bell, Fountain of Peace, Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Museum and Izumiya Peace Park Stone

  • 12:00-13:30 Lunch

  • 13:30-14:00 Travel to Glover Garden

  • 14:00-16:15 Glover Garden

  • 16:15-16:30 Travel to Nagasaki Port Matsugae International Terminal

Kagoshima Day: Marine Port Kagoshima Large Cruise Ship Docks

  • 7:30 Pick up from Marine Port Kagoshima Large Cruise Ship Docks

  • 7:45-8:30 Travel to Sakurajima Port

  • 8:30-12:00 Explore Sakurajima

    • Many of our guests enjoy exploring these aspects: Sakurajima visitors center, Karasujima Observatory, Yohan Nagisa Foot Bath

  • 12:00-13:30 Lunch

  • 13:30-14:30 Travel to Waterfront Park (a boardwalk with views of the active volcano, Sakurajima)

  • 14:30-15:30 Waterfront Park

  • 15:30-16:00 Travel to Marine Port Kagoshima Large Cruise Ship Docks

Shimizu Day: Shimizu Port, Hinode Pier (Hinode Wharf)

  • 7:30 Pick up from Shimizu Port, Hinode Pier

  • 7:45-9:00 Travel to Shiraito Falls (A UNESCO World Heritage asset, Japan Natural Monument, and Place of Scenic Beauty, this is waterfall that is said to look like white silk)

  • 9:00-11:00 Explore Shiraito Falls and Otodonome Falls

    • If there is time Shinaito Natural Park is another addition many guests enjoy

  • 11:00-11:30 Lunch

  • 13:00-13:30 Travel to Mount Fuji World Heritage Center

  • 13:30-14:30 Enjoy Mount Fuji World Heritage Center

  • 14:30-15:30 Travel to Shimizu Port, Hinode Pier

Cruise Disembarkation Day: Yokohama Cruise Terminal

  • 5:30 Pick up from Yokohama Cruise Terminal and bring to hotel or other location

    • Many of our guests prefer to enjoy one of the themeparks at the Tokyo Disneyland Resort on this day

Departure Day: Drop off at Haneda or Narita

  • 17:30 Pick up from hotel and drop off at Haneda Airport or Narita Airport
